There are two different pathways by which water and minerals are transported from root hair to the xylem, which are:
(a) Symplast pathway: The passage of water and minerals through the cytoplasm of the cells is called transportation through symplast pathway.
(b) Apoplast pathway: These are the intercellular spaces outside the plasma membrane. The passage of water and minerals through the cell wall and intercellular spaces is known as apoplast pathway.
