In a face centred cubic lattice, atom A ...

In a face centred cubic lattice, atom `A` occupies the corner positions and atom `B` occupies the face centred positions. If one atom of `B` is missin from one of the face centred points,, the formula of the compound is `:`

A

`A_(2)B_(3)`

B

`AB_(2)`

C

`AB_(5)`

The correct Answer is:
C

Atom (A) occupies corner position in FCC lattice .
`rArr` Total No. of (A) atoms per unit all ` = 8 xx (1)/(8) = 1`
Atom (B) occupies face centre position .
`therefore ` No of atoms of B = 6
Also one atom of B is missing from one of the centred position .
`therefore ` Total No of atoms of B = 6 - 1 = 5 .
Thus , the formula of the compound will `AB_(5)` .
