Aldol condensation : Aldehydes and ketones having at least one a-hydrogen undergo a reaction in the presence of dilute alkali as catalyst to form.`beta` -hydroxy aldehydes (aldol) or `beta`-hydroxy ketones (ketol), respectively. This is known as Aldol reaction.
