What is tailing of mercury? How is it removed ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ozone reacts with mercury to form `Hg_(2) O`. Due to dissolution of `Hg_(2) O` in Hg mercury loses its meniscus and sticks to the sides of glass. This is called tailing of mercury.
The menisus can be regained by shaking with water which dissolves `Hg_(2) O`.
