excess `NH_(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Chlorine is prepared in the laboratory by heating concentrated Hydrochlorinc acid with Manganese dioxide.
`MnO_2 + 4HCI to MnCI_2 + Cl_2 + 2H_2 O`
It can also be prepared by heating a mixture of sodium chloride and concentrated `H_(2) SO_(4)`.
`4NaCI + MnO_(2) + 4H_(2) SO_(4) to MnCI_(2) + 4NaHSO_(4) + 2H_(2) O+ CI_(2)`
Reactions :
Excess of `NH_3`: Chlorine gives nitrogen and ammonium chloride with excess ammonia.
`8NH_(3) + 3CI_(2) to 6NH_(4) CI+ N_(2)`
