What is Schottky defect ?...

What is Schottky defect ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is a point defect in which an atom or ion is missing from its normal site in the lattice. In order to maintain electrical neutral- ity, the numbering of missing cations and anions are equal. This defect occurs mainly in highly ionic compounds where cationic and anionic sizes are equal. This defect decreases the density of the substance. Ex: NaCl, kÇI.
