How is Gibbs energy (G) related to the cell emf (E) mathematically ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Gibbs energy is related to emf of a galvanic cell by the following equation .
` Delta G = - n F E `
Where ` Delta G ` = change in Gibbs energy
n = No. of electrons involved
F = Faraday = 96500 C ` mol^(-1)`
E = emf of galvanic cell
