Cannizaro.s eaction : .Aldehydes which do not have a-hiydrogen atom, ondergo self oxidation and reduction (disproportionation, reaction on heating with concentrated alkali. In this reaction one molecule of the aldehyde is reduced to cohol while another is oxidised to carboxylic acid salt.
