Two forces of magnitudes 3 units and 5 u...

Two forces of magnitudes 3 units and 5 units act at `60^(@)` with each other. What is the magnitude of their resultant ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given `bar(P)` = 3 units, `bar(Q)` = 5 units and `theta = 60^(@)`
`therefore R = sqrt(P^(2) + Q^(2) + 2PQ cos theta) = sqrt(3^(2) + 5^(2) + 2(3)(5) cos 60^(@))`
`= sqrt(9 + 25 + 30 xx (1)/(2)) = sqrt(49)`
= 7 units
