Esterfication : A process in which an alcohol and a carboxylic acid react in the presence of cone.
`H_(2)SO_(4)` to form an ester.
`CH_(3)COOH+C_(2)H_(5)OHoverset("Conc"H_(2)SO_(4))toCH_(3)COOC_(2)H_(5)+H_(2)O`
Activity :
Take 1 mL of ethanol mixed with 1 ml of acetic acid alon with few drops of cone . `H_(2)SO_(4)` in a test tube .
Warm it for 5 min .in a water bath .
Pour the contents in a beaker containing 20-50 ml of water and smell resulting mixture.
It will give a fruity smell indicating the formation of ester.
