If the equilibrium constant of the reaction, `2 XY _((g)) hArr X _(2 (g)) + Y _(2 (g))` is s 0.4 at 300 K, the equilibrium constant of the reaction `X _(2 (g)) + Y _(2 (g)) hArr 2 XY _((g)) ` will be ________.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`2.5`

`2 X Y _((g)) hArr X _(2 (g)) + Y _(2 (g)) , K _(C) = 0.40`
For the above Reaction,
Equilibrium Constant is given as,
`K _(eq) = ( P _(x _(2)) xx P _(y_(2)))/( p _(XY) ^(2))`
For reverse reaction,
`K _(eq), = ( p _(XY) ^(2))/( p _(X _(2 )) xx p _(Y_(2)))`
On compairing the both equilibrium Constants
`K _(eq). = (1)/( K _(eq)) = (1)/(0.4) = 2.5`
