Find the product of 1.2, 2.54 and 3.257 ...

Find the product of 1.2, 2.54 and 3.257 with due regard to significant figures.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Out of the three numbers 1.2 has got the least num- ber of significant figures - two. Wc should round off the other numbers to 2+ 1 =3 significant figures and carty the multiplication. 2.54 has three significant figures and hence needs no rounding off. 3.257 is to be rounded off to 3.26.
`1.2xx2.54xx3.26=9.93648` . But the result should be limited to the least number of significant digits-that is two digits only. The final answer should be writen as 9.9 after rounding off.
