A particle of mass `0.1kg` moving at an initial speed `v` collides with another particle of same mass kept initially at rest. If the total energy becomes `0.2J` after the collision, what would be the minimum and maximum values of `v`?

In case of perfectly inelastic collision the velocity of combined mass will be v/2
`therefore KE=(1)/(2)(2m)((v^(2))/(4))i.e., (0.2)=(1)/(2)(0.2)((v^(2))/(4))`
`rArr v=2sqrt(2)m//s`. In case of perfectly elastic collision, first particle stops and the second acquires the same velocity v
`KE=(1)/(2)mv^(2)i.e., 0.2=(1)/(2)(0.1)v^(2) rArr v=2 m//s`
Therefore, minimum value of v is 2 m/s in case of perfectly elastic collision and maximum value of v is `2sqrt(2)` m/s in case of perfectly inelastic collision.
