The tempareture and the relative humidit...

The tempareture and the relative humidity are 300K and 20% in a room of volume `50m^(3)`. The floor is washed with water , soog of water sticking on the floor. Assuming mo communication with the surrouding, find the relative humidity when the floor dries. The changes in temperature and pressure may be neglected. Saturation vapour pressure at `300K=3.3kPa`.

Given , T= 300K,
Relative humidity = 20%,
`V= 50(m^3)`
SVP at 300K = 3.3 K Pa
VP = Relative humidity xx SVP
` = (0.2 xx 3.3 xx (10^3)) `
` PV = mRT/ M `
` rArr 0.2 xx 3.3 xx (10^3) xx 50 `
` (= (m xx 8.3 xx 300) / 18)`
` rArr m = (0.2 xx 3.3 xx 50 xx 18 xx (10^3)/ 8.3 xx 300)`
` = 238.55 g ~~ 238 g` .

An ideal monoatomic gas occupies volume 10^(-3)m^(3) at temperature 3K and pressure 10^(3) Pa. The internal energy of the gas is taken to be zero at this point. It undergoes the following cycle: The temperature is raised to 300K at constant volume, the gas is then expanded adiabatically till the temperature is 3K , followed by isothermal compression to the original volume . Plot the process on a PV diagram. Calculate (i) The work done and the heat transferred in each process and the internal energy at the end of each process, (ii) The thermal efficiency of the cycle.

An amount of 2.49xx10^4 Joules of heat energy is supplied to the gas. Calculate the final temperature and pressure of the gas.

An ideal monoatomic gas is confined in a cylinder by a spring-loaded piston of cross-section 8.0xx10^-3m^2 . Initially the gas is at 300K and occupies a volume of 2.4xx10^-3m^3 and the spring is in its relaxed (unstretched, unompressed) state, fig. The gas is heated by a small electric heater until the piston moves out slowly by 0.1m. Calculate the final temperature of the gas and the heat supplied (in joules) by the heater. The force constant of the spring is 8000 N//m , atmospheric pressure is 1.0xx10^5 Nm^-2 . The cylinder and the piston are thermally insulated. The piston is massless and there is no friction between the piston and the cylinder. Neglect heat loss through lead wires of the heater. The heat capacity of the heater coil is negligible. Assume the spring to be massless.
