Calculate the minimum energy needed to separate a neutron form a nucleus with Z protons and N neutrons in terms of the masses `M_(Z,N),M_(Z,N-1)` and the mass of the neutron.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C

`E_z, N = E_(z, N-1) + _(0)^1n`
Energy released = (Initial Mass of nucleus
- Final mass of nucleus)`c^2`
`=(m_(z,N-1) + m_n - M_(z,N))c^2` .

The neutron separation energy is defined as the energy required to remove a neutron from the nucleus. Obtain the neutron separation energies of the nuclei ""_(20)^(41)Ca and ""_(13)^(27)Al from the following data: m(""_(20)^(40)Ca) = 39.962591 u m(""_(20)^(41)Ca) = 40.962278 u m(""_(13)^(26)Al) = 25.986895 u m (""_(13)^(27)Al) = 26.981541 u .

A given coin has a mass of 3.0 g. Calculate the nuclear energy that would be required to separate all the neutrons and protons from each other. For simplicity assume that the coin is entirely made of ""_(29)^(63)Cu atoms (of mass 62.92960 u).

In the options given below, let E denote the rest mass energy of a nucleus and n a neutron. The correct option is:

Two hydrogen like atoms A and B having (N)/(Z) ratio equal to 1 have atomic number Z_(A) and Z_(B) A is moving, while B is stationary and both are in ground state. The minimum kinetic energy which A must have to have an inelastic collision with B such that both A and B getting excited is 221 e V . If situation is reversed and B is made to stike A which is stationary and both in ground state then minimum kinetic energy which B must have to make an inelastic coliision with both getting excited is 331.5 e V . Assume mase of proton = mass of neutron. In which of the following case energy of emitted photon will be same (Neglecting recoil of atom)
