A person travels on a spaceship moving at a speed of `5c / 13`. (a) Find the train interval calculate by him between the consecutive birthday celbrations of his friend on the earth . (b) Find the time interval calculated by the friend on the earth between the consecutive birthday celebrations of the traveller.

Text Solution

(a) Here ` u = 5c/ 13 `
`Delta t = t / (sqrt 1 -u^(2) / c^(2))
` = 1 y / (sqrt 1 - 25c^(2) / 169c^(2)) `
` =y xx 13/ 12 = 13 / 12 y `
The time inteval between the consecutiove birthday celebration is 13 / 12 y .
(b) The friend on the earth also calculates the same speed.

The earth has a radius of 6400 km. The inner core of 1000 km radius is solid. Outside it, there is a region from 1000 km to a radius of 3500 km which is in molten state. Then again from 3500 km to 6400 km the earth is solid. Only longitudinal (P) waves can travel inside a liquid. Assume that the P wave has a speed of 8 kms^(-1) in solid parts and of 5 kms^(-1) in liquid parts of the earth. An earthquake occurs at some place close to the surface of the earth. Calculate the time after which it will be recorded in a seismometer at a diametrically opposite point on the earth if wave travels along diameter ?

A swimmer starts to swim from point a to cross a river. He wants to reach point B on the opposite side of the river. The line AB makes an angle 60^(@) with the river flow as hown. The velocity of the swimmer in still water is same as that of the water (i) In what direction should he try to direct his velocity ? Calculate angle between his velocity anf river velocity. (ii) Find the ratio of the time taken to cross the river in this situation to the minimum time in which he can cross this river.

A 3.6m long vertical pipe resonates with a source of frequency 212.5 Hz when water level is at certain height in the pipe. Find the height of water level (from the bottom of the pipe) at which resonance occurs. Neglect end correction. Now , the pipe is filled to a height H (~~ 3.6m) . A small hole is drilled very close to its bottom and water is allowed to leak. Obtain an expression for the rate of fall of water level in the pipe as a function of H . If the radii of the pipe and the hole are 2 xx 10^(-2)m and 1 xx 10^(-3)m respectively, Calculate the time interval between the occurance of first two resonances. A bullet of mass 50g moving with velocity 600m//s hits block of mass 1.0kg placed on a rough horizontal ground and comes out of the block with a velocity of 400m//s . The coefficient of friction between the block and the ground is 0.25 . Neglect loss of mass of the block as the bullet pierces through it. (a) In spite of the fact that friction acts a an external force, can you apply principle of conservation of momentum during interaction of the ullet with the block? (b) Find velocity of the block immediately after the bullet pierces through it. (c)FInd the distance the block will travel before it stops.

Two trains start from the same place. A person travel in a train whose speed is 50 km/h and it go to south direction. Another person travel in another train whose speed is 60 km/h and it go to west direction. After two hours, find the rate of distance between them.

An express train takes 1 hour less than a passenger train to travel 132 km between Mysore and Bangaluru (without taking into consideration the time they stop at intermediate stations). If the average speed of the express train is 11km/h more than that of the passenger train, find the average speed of the two trains.
