What happen when
`CO_2` is passed through slaked lime

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`CO_2` is passed through slaked lime: When Co, is passed through slaked lime turns to milky due to the formation of insoluble `CaCO_3`.
`Ca(OH)_2+CO_2 rarr CaCO_3+H_2O+CO_2`
If excess `CO_2` is passed, the milkyness disappears due to the conversion of insoluble `CaCO_3`, to soluble `Ca(HCO_3)_2`.
`CaCO_3+H_2O+CO_2 rarr Ca(HCO_3)_2`
