Metal A is aluminium (al) which is used in thermite process. Al reacts with oxygen to form aluminium oxide `(Al_(2)O_(3))` which is amphoteric in nature. The reaction of aluminium oxide with HCI and NaOH are as follows:
`Al_(2)O_(3) + 6HCI rarr 2AlCl_(3) + 3H_(2)O`
`Al_(2)O_(3) + 2NaOH rarr 2NaAlO_(2) + H_(2)O`
