Which of the following 0.1M aqueous solution will have the lowest freezing point?

A

Potassium sulphate

B

Sodium chloride

C

Urea

D

Solvent molecules to the total number of molecules in solution

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Urea and glucose do not dissociate in solution. On the other hand, sodium chloride and potassium sulphate gives two ions and three ions per formula unit on dissociation respectively. As the effective number of particles is maximum in potassium sulphate (i.e., 3), its effective molality in solution increases by three times. Hence, its freezing point is lowest.
