An ac voltage is applied to a resistance...

An ac voltage is applied to a resistance R and an inductor L in series. If R and the inductive reactance are both equal to 3 `Omega,` the phase difference between the applied voltage and the current in the circuit is

A

zero

B

The correct Answer is:
C

Given, `R = 3 Omega `
`X_(L) = 3 Omega`
`phi = ?`
For ac circuit we have,
`cos phi = (R)/( sqrt (R ^(2) + (X _(L) - X _(C)) ^(2)))`
here `X _(C) = 0`
`cos phi = ( R)/( sqrt ( R ^(2) + X _(L) ^(2)))`
`R = X _(L) = 3 Omega`
`cos phi = (3)/( sqrt ( 3 ^(2) + 3 ^(2))) = (1)/( sqrt2)`
so, `phi = ( pi)/(4)`
