The cathode of a photoelectric cell is c...

The cathode of a photoelectric cell is changed such that the work function changes from `(W_(1) to W_(2) (W_(2) gt W_(1))`. If the current before and after change are `I_(1)` and `I_(2)`, all other conditions remaining unchanged , then (assuming `hv gt W_(2)`)

A

`I_(1) = I_(2)`

B

`I_(1) lt I_(2)`

C

`I_(1) gt I_(2)`

D

`I_(1) lt I_(2) lt 2I_(1)`

The correct Answer is:
A

The work function has no effect on photoelectric current so long as `hv gt W_(0)`. The photoelectric current proportional to the intensity of incident light, since there is no change in the intensity of light, hence `I_(1) = I_(2)`

When light of frequency v_1 incident on a metal with work function W_0 (where hv_1 gt W_0), the photocurrent falls to zero at a stopping potential of V_1. If the frequency of light is increased to v_2, the stopping potential changes to V_2. Therefore, the charge of an electron is given by
