When the lamina of leaf is divided into number of leaflets and all the leaflets are attached to a common leaf stalk, it is known as compound leaf. Figures .b., .c. and .d. are compound leaves. On the other hand, the lamina of simple leaf is not divided into leaflets and is directly connected to the stem. Figure .a. is a simple leaf.
