AF = AB + CD = 6 + 6 = 12 km
Also, EF = ED - BC = 10 - 5 = 5 km
By using pythagoras theorem,
`AE^(2) = AF^(2) + EF^(2) = 12^(2) + 5^(2) = 144 + 25 = 169`
`rArr AE = 13 km`
`therefore` The man is 13 km far from the starting point.
