X in the question is glucose. Glucose is used by cells as the energy source. Glucose is broken down by respiratory enzymes into carbon dioxide and water in presence of oxygen, to provide energy.
When muscles need to work constantly for a long period, they start anaerobic respiration and glucose is then converted to lactate to release energy.
Excess of glucose is converted to glycogen which serves as food reserve in animals but glucose is not directly stored. Glycogen, whenever needed is converted back to glucose to produce energy.
