20 Pa pressure is applied on the head of a nail placed perpendicular to the surface of a wall. If the area of cross section of the tip of the nail is `(1)/(10)` the area of cross section of the head, the pressure exerted at the wall is ____ Pa.

A

10 Pa

B

20 Pa

C

200 Pa

D

None of these.

The correct Answer is:
C

Let area of cross-section of the head of the nail be A.
`therefore` Area of cross-section of the tip of nail = `A=10`
Hence, pressure applied on the head of a nail is
`P_1=F/A=20Pa`
Pressure exerted at the wall by tip of the nail is `P_2`
`=F/(A//10)=F/Axx10`
or `P_2=20xx10=200Pa`
