Tom and Dick are running forward with the same speed. They are following a rubber ball to each other at a constant speed v as seen by the thrower. According to Sam who is standing on the ground the speed of ball is

A

Same as v

B

Greater than v

C

Less than v

D

None of these

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Running speed will be added to v .
Let `vecV_(BG)` be the velocity of ball with respect to ground, Vbt be the velocity of ball with respect to thrower and `vecV_(tg)` be the velocity of thrower w.r. to ground. Then, `vecV_(BG) =vecV_(BT) + vecV_(TG)` here, `vecV_(TG) gt 0` . Hence, velocity of the ball with respect to ground will be greater than velocity of ball with respect to thrower.

Two balls X and Y are thrown from top of tower one vertically upward and other vertically downward with same speed. If times taken by them to reach the ground are 6 s and 2 s respectively, then the height of the tower and initial speed of each ball are (g=10m//s^(2))

A student is standing on the open platform of a moving trains at a speed of 10m//s . The student throws a ball into the air along a path that the, he judges to make an initial angle of 60^(@) with the horizotal and to be in line with the track.
