From a ballon rising vertically upwards ...

From a ballon rising vertically upwards at 5 m/s, a stone is thrown up at 10 m/s relative to the balloon. Its velocity with respect to ground after 2 sec is - (assume g = 10 `m//s^(2)`)

A

0

B

20m/s

C

10m/sec

D

5m/s

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Relative velocity of stone w.r.t. ground
`v_r = 10 + 5 = 15m//s`
Velocity after t = 2sec
`v = v_r - g t rArr v = 16-10 xx 2 = -5m//s`
i.e 5m/sec (downward).
