Assertion: Pascal law is the working principle of hydraulic lift.
Reason: Pressure `=(thrust)/(area)`

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If the assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
B

According to Pascal.s law, if gravity effect is neglected, the pressure at every point of liquid in equilibrium of rest is same.
`P_1 = P_2`
i.e. `(F_1)/(a_1)=(F_2)/(a_2)`
or `F_2=(a_2)/(a_1)F_1`
As `a_2 gt gt a_1 :. F_2 gt gt F_1`

This shows that small force (`F_1`) applied on the smaller piston (of area `a_1`) will be appearing as a very large force on the larger piston.

Some question (Assertion-Reason type) are given below. Each question contains STATEMENT-1(Assertion) and STATEMENT-2(Reason) . Each question has 4 choices (A),(B),(C ) and (D) out of which ONLY ONE is correct. So select the correct choice : STATEMENT-1 : Pascal's Law is the working principle of a hydraulic lift. STATEMENT-2 : Pressure is equal to thrust acting per unit area.
