Assertion : Hydrostatic pressure is a ...

Assertion : Hydrostatic pressure is a vector quantity.
Reason : Pressure is force divided by area, and force is a vector quantity.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If assertion is false but reason is true.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Since due to applied force on liquid, the pressure is transmitted equally in all directions inside the liquid. There is no fixed direction for the pressure in the liquid. Hence hydrostatic pressure is a scalar quantity.
