Two spheres A and B are made of the same material and have the same radius. Sphere A is hollow and sphere B is solid. Both the spheres are heated to the same temperature. Which of the following is correct ?

A

The solid sphere expands more

B

The hollow sphere expands more

C

Expansion is same for both

D

Nothing can be said about their relative expansion if their masses are not given

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

As `Delta V = gamma V Delta T`
Here V, `gamma` and `Delta T` are same for both solid and hollow spheres.
So the expansion for both spheres will be equal.

Two metallic sphere A and B are made of same material and have got identical surface finish. The mass of sphere A is four times that of B. Both the spheres are heated to the same temperature and placed in a room having lower temperature but thermally insulated from each other.

Two spheres of the same size are made of the same metal, but one is hollow and the other is solid. They are heated to the same temperature. Then,

A solid sphere and a hollow sphere of the same material and of equal radii are heated to the same temperature.

A solid sphere and a hollow sphere of the same material and of equal radii are heated to the same temperature

A solid sphere and a hollow sphere are heated the same temperature . Point out the true statement.

Two spheres of radii R_(1) and R_(2) are made of the same material and are at the same temperature. The ratio of their thermal capacities is:

Two spheres of the same radius are made from the same material. One is hollow and the other is solid. If they are heated together from 20^@C" to "100^@C .

Two metallic spheres A and B are made up of same material and also have identical surfaces. Both spheres are heated to same temperature and are then placed in a chamber which is at a lower temperature, thermally insulated from each other. If ratio of masses of A and B is 3:1, then the ratio of their initial rate of cooling is
