Assertion : The difference in the value ...

Assertion : The difference in the value of acceleration due to gravity at pole and equator is proportional to square of angular velocity of earth.
Reason : the value of acceleration due to gravity is minimum at the equator and maximum at the pole.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If the assertion and reason both are false

The correct Answer is:
B

Acceleration due to gravity,
`g.=g-Romega^2cos^2lamda`
At equator, `lamda=0^(@)i.e. cos0^(@)=1thereforeg_e=g-romega^2`
At poles, `lamda=90^(@)i.e. cos90^(@)=0thereforeg_p=g`
Thus, `g_p-g_e=g-g+Romega^2=Romega^2`
Also, the value of g is maximum at poles and minimum at equators.
