50 mL of hydrogen diffuses through a small hole from vessel in 20 minutes time. Time taken for 4 mL of oxygen to diffuse out under similar conditions will be

A

12min

B

64min

C

8min

D

32 min

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

If 40 mL `O_2` will diffuse in t min. then. `r_(O_2) = (40)/(t)`
`r_H = 50/20 rArr r_O = r_H 2 sqrt((M_(H_2))/(M_(O_2))) = 50/20 sqrt(2/32) = 50/20 . 1/4`
`40/t = 50/80 therefore t = (40 xx 80)/(50) = 64` minute
