A mixture of `N_2` and Ar gases in a cylinder contains 7g of `N_2` & 8 g of Ar. If the total pressure of the mixture of the gases in the cylinder is 27bar, the partial pressure of `N_2` is:

A

9 bar

B

12 bar

C

15 bar

D

18 bar

The correct Answer is:
C

`n_(N_2) = 7/28 = 1/4 = 0.25`
`n_(Ar) = 8/40 = 1/5 = 0.20`
Now, Applying Dalton.s law of partial pressure,
`P_(N_2) = (X_(N_2) ) P_("total")`
`= (0.25)/(0.45) xx 27` bar
` = 5/9 xx 27 = 15` bar .

The total pressure of a mixture of two gases is

A neon (Ne) -dioxygen (O_(2)) mixture contains 160 g neon and 96 g dioxygen . If the pressure of the mixture of gases in the container is 30 bar, calculate the partial pressure of neon and dioxygen in the mixture. Strategy : Calculate the number of moles of each component to get their mole fractions. Then use Eq.(5.24) to determine the partial pressure of any component and substract it from the total pressure to find the partial pressure of the component .

In a closed cylinder there are 60g Ne and 64 g O_(2). if pressure of mixture of gases in cylinder is 30 bar then partial pressure of O _(2) in this cylinder will be-

In a mixture of N_(2) and O_(2) gases, the mole fraction of N_(2) is found to be 0.700. the total pressure of the mixture is 1.42atm. What is the partial pressure of O_(2) in the mixture?
