Assertion : 22.4 L of N(2) at NTP and 5....

Assertion : 22.4 L of `N_(2)` at NTP and 5.6 L `O_(2)` at NTP contain equal number of molecules.
Reason : Under similar conditions of temperature and pressure all gases contain equal number of molecules.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If the assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
D

Molar volumr (at NTP) = 22.4L
Now 22.4L of `N_(2) =` volume occupied by one mole of
`N_(2) = 28g = 6.022 xx 10^(23)` molecules .
Similarly , `O_(2) = 2 xx 16 = 32 g`
`32 g = 6.022 xx 10^(23)` molecules = 22.4L
`therefore 22.4L = 6.022 xx 10^(23) ` or `5.6 L = (6.022 xx 10^(23) xx 5.6)/(22.4) = (1)/(4) xx 6.022 xx 10^(23)`
According to Avogadro.s hypothesis equal volume of all gases contain equal no. of molecules under similar condition of temperature and pressure.
