Reason (R) : Sound level of jet aeroplanes usually exceeds 160 dB.

A

If both the assertion and the reason are true and the reason is a correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion

C

If the assertion is true but the reason is false

D

If both the assertion and reason are false

The correct Answer is:
A

Noise level up to 64 dB (decibel) is well tolerated. Prolonged exposure to noise level to 80 dB or more leads to loss of hearing ability, fatigue, nervousness, fever, hypertension, gastric disorder, increase in cholesterol level and dilation of pupil of the eye. As the jet aeroplanes have the noise up to 150-160 dB, the inhabitants in the vicinity of busy airports are likely to experience above health hazards. Maximum noise level is recorded in rockets, i.e., 180 dB.

Assertion : A brief expoosure to extremely high sound level, 150dB or more generated by take off of a jet plane or rocket, may damage ear drum or dislocate ear ossicles and permanently impair the hearing ability. Reason : In India, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution ) Act came into force in 1981, but was amended in 1987 to include noise as an air pollutant.
