Assertion: The `pH` of aicd rain is less than `5.6`
Reason: Carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere dissolves in rain water and forms carbonic acid.

A

If both the assertion and the reason are true and the reason is a correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion

C

If the assertion is true but the reason is false

D

If both the assertion and reason are false

The correct Answer is:
B

Generally the pH of rain water is 5.6 because of the dissolution of `CO_(2)` from the atmosphere into rain water .
When some other gases, like `SO_(2),NO_(2)` etc., also dissolve, the pH goes below 5.6 due to the presence of strong acids like `H_(2)SO_(4), HNO_(3)` , etc . This rain is now referred as acid rain.
