Concentrated aqueous solution of sulphur...

Concentrated aqueous solution of sulphuric acid is `98 %` by mass and has density of `1.80 "g mL"^(-1)`. What is the volume of acid required to make one liter `0.1 M H_(2)SO_(4)` solution ?

A

11.10 mL

B

16.65 mL

C

22.20 mL

D

5.55 mL

The correct Answer is:
D

`H_(2)SO_(4)` is 98% by weight
wt. Of `H_(2)SO_(4)=98gm`
wt. Of solution = 100 gm
`therefore` Volume of solution `=(100)/(1.80)mL=(100)/(1.80xx1000)"litre"`
`therefore M_(H_(2)SO_(4))=(98)/(98xx(100)/(1.80xx1000))=18.014`
Let V mL of this `H_(2)SO_(4)` are used to prepare 1 litre of 0.1 M `H_(2)SO_(4)` solution.
`M_(1)V_(1)=M_(2)V_(2)`
`V xx18.014 = 1000 xx 0.1 , V = 5.55mL`
