If the volume of the vessel in which the reaction `2NO+O_2 rarr2NO_2` is occurring is diminished to 1/3 rd of its initial volume . The rate of the reaction will be increased by

A

3 times

B

9 times

C

27 times

D

36 times

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

For a given reaction
`2NO_((g))+O_(2(g))hArr2NO_(2(g))`
Rate of reaction = `k[NO]^(2)[O_(2)]`
Rate of recation directly proportional to concentration of the compound or inversely proportional to the volume of the vessel .
i.e., `C prop(n)/(v)`
If volume of vessel is reduced by `1//3rd` of its initial value, then concentration of compound is increased by 3 times and consequently the rate of reaction by `27` times .
