The major atmospheric constituents, `N_2, O_2` and Ar are not greenhouse gases because molecules containing two atoms of the same element or monoatomic molecules have no net change in the distribution of their electric charges when they vibrate. Hence they are almost totally unaffected by infrared radiations.
