Which of the following is most easily hydrolysed amongst the following

A

`SF_6`

B

`NF_3`

C

`C Cl_4`

D

`TeF_6`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

`SF_(6)` is highly stable with octahedral geometry. It has zero dipole moment and is highly compact which repels the incoming water molecule.
`NF_(3) "and" CCl_(4)` cannot be hydrolyzed because of small molecular size and high stability.
Tellurium is much bigger in size and can provide enough space for incoming water molecules to donate its lone pair in the vacant d–orbitals to form `Te(OH)_(6).`
