Which of the following bonds has the highest energy?

A

Se-Se

B

Te-Te

C

S-S

D

O-O

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Size of oxygen atom is small, so it experiences lone pair–lone pair repulsions in O-O bond. So S- S bond energy is more than O -O bond energy. The bond energy of Se- Se and Te-Te is lower than S-S because of bigger size of atoms and greater bond length.
