The correct order of reactivity towards ...

The correct order of reactivity towards the electrophilic substitution of the compounds anisole (I), benzene (II) and nitrobenzene (III) is :-

A

`I gt II gt III`

B

`III gt II gt I`

C

`II gt III gt I`

D

`I lt II gt III`

The correct Answer is:
A

In aniline `-NH_(2)` group is attached with benzene ring which shows +M effect. So it activates the benzene ring. Hence, rate of electrophilic substitution is increased due to increase in the electron density at ortho and para positions. In case of nitrobenzene, `-NO_(2)` deactivates the benzene ring, so in nitrobenzene rate of electrophilic substitution is lower than benzene. Hence, order of electrophilic substitution reaction is,
