Assertion: Solubilities of proteins is minimum at the isoelectronic point.
Reason: At isoelectronic point , protein molecules behaves as a zwitter ion.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If the assertion and reason both are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

At some pH , an amino acid exists as electrically balanced Zwitter ion or dipolar ion. This is called iso – electric point. The solubility of protein is minimum at this point because the zwitter ions do not tend to ionize further in aqueous solution.
