Although bacteriochiorophyll resembles chlorophyll it absorbs light of a longer wavelength than chlorophyll. Bacteria that contain bacteriochlorophyll donot use water as an electron don and therefore do not produce oxygen. Its reaction centre is 890. This is known as anoxygenic photosynthesis.
