In genetic engineering, a DNA segment (gene) of interest, is translated to the host cell through a vector. Consider the following four agents (A-D) in this regard and select the correct option about which one or more of these can be used as a vector/vectors
Statement
(A) A bacterium (B) Plasmid
(C) Plasmodium (D) Bacteriophage

A

(A), (B) and (D) only

B

(A) only

C

(A) and (C) only

D

(B) and (D) only

The correct Answer is:
D

A cloning vector is a small piece of DNA taken from a virus, a plasmid or the cell of a higher organism that can be stably maintained in an organisms.
A plasmid can move from cell to cell easily. They also contain the genes that control their own replication. Therefore they can be used to move and to copy any gene that can be inserted into the plasmid. It can take DNA upto 10 kb and bacteriophage upto 100 kb.
