A marksman wishes to hit a target just in the same level as the line of sight. How high from the target he should aim, if the distance of the target is 1600 m and the muzzle velocity of the gun is `800 ms^(-1)` ? Take `g = 9.8 ms^(-2)`.

The correct Answer is:
`19.6`

Let u be the speed of the bullet, In time , it covers a horizontal distance
x = 1600 m
But x = u t
`:. 1600 = 800 xx t or t = 2 s`
Distance through which the bullet is pulled down by the force of gravity in 2 s is
` y = (1)/(2) g t ^(2) = (1)/(2) xx 9 . 8 xx (2) ^(2) = 19 . 6 m`
`:.` Height of the gun from the target = 19.6 m
