In an experiment, it was found that a tuning fork and sonometer wire gave 5 beats per second, both when the length of wire was 1m and 1.05m. Calculate the frequency of the fork.

Here `L_1 = 1m, L_2 = 1.05m`
Beat frequency `= 5s^(-1)`
As `v prop 1/L :. v_1/(v_2) = L_2/L_1`
But `L_1 lt L_2 :. v_1 gt v_2`
If v is the frequency of the tuning fork, the
`v_1 = v +5 and v_2 =v-5`
Hence `(v +5)/(v-5) =(1.05)/1`
or v + 5 = 1.05 v -5.25 or 0.05 v = 10.25
or `v=(10.25)/(0.05) = 205 `Hz. or v= 0.05
