The assault on the purity of the environment is the price that we pay for many of the benefits of modern technology. For the advantages of automotive transportation we pay a price in smog-induced diseases, for the powerful effects of new insecticides, we pay a price in dwindling wildlife and disturbances in the relation of living things and their surroundings, for nuclear power, we risk the biological hazards of radiation. By increasing agricultural production with fertilizers, we increase water pollution. The highly developed nations of the world are not only the immediate beneficiaries of the good that technology can do, they are also the first victims of the environmental diseases that technology breeds. In the past, the environmental effects which accompanied technological progress were restricted to a small place and relatively a short time. The new hazards are neither local nor brief. Modern air pollution covers vast areas of continents. Radioactive fallout from nuclear explosions is. worldwide. Radioactive pollutants now on the Earth's surface will be found there for generations, and in the case of Carbon-14, for thousands of years. With reference to the passage, the following assumptions have been made : 1. The widespread use of insecticides has caused ecological imbalance. 2. Conservation of natural flora and fauna is impossible in this age of modern technology Which of the assumptions is/are valid ?
Find the appropriate relation for quantity 1 and quantity 2 in the following question : Quantity 1 : In an examination, Ankita scored 35 marks less than Puneeta. Puneeta scored 65 more marks than Meenakshi. Rakhi scored 115 marks, which is 20 marks more than Meenkashi's . Simpy scored 108 marks less than the maximum marks of the test. What approximate percentage of marks did Simpy score in the examination, if she got 67 marks more than Ankita ? Quantity 2 : The length of a rectangle is increased by 60% . By what percent would the width have to be decreased to maintain the same area ?
There are seven persons - A, B, C, D, E, F and G - who participated in a singing competition which started on 25th May and ended on 31st May. In the first round of the competition, each of them performed regional songs, viz Tamil, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali Kannada, Punjabi and Bhojpuri, but not necessarily in the same order. They like different colours, viz White, Yellow, Red, Black, Brown, Green and Pink, but not necessarily in the same order. G who likes Green, performed on the fourth day of the competition but performed neither Tamil nor Hindi song. Two performances were held between the performance of G and F, neither of whom performed on the 1st day of the week. There was one performance between the performance of D and C. But C's performance did not happen either on 1st or on 3rd day of the competition. Likes Yellow colour and performed Tamil song The one who performed Marathi song on the last day of competition, likes Red colour. B did not perform on the day either immediately before or immediately after the performance of D, who does not like either Brown or White or Black colour. E performed immediately after Cand he likes White colour. A does not like Brown colour and performed a Bengali song. D did not perform either Bhojpuri or Punjabi song. The one who performed in Kannada was scheduled immediately after the performance of the Tamil singer If 'G' is related to 'Yellow' ,'E' is related to 'Red' , then will of the following is 'D' related to ?
The limit of resolution of a microscope is the least distance between two point objects which can be seen clearly and distinctively with it. For a naked eye, limit of resolution is about 10^(-4) m or 0.1 mm. The limit of resolution for a microscope is of the order of lambda/2 , where lambda is wavelength of light used. For an optical microscope , using visible light, limit of resolution is "500 nm"/2 =250 mm. This is 400 times smaller than naked eye. So the useful magnification produced by it is 400. Smaller is the limit of resolution, greater is the magnification that can be achieved. By using shorter wavelengths , we can improve resolution. For examination of a microorganism, much higher limit of resolution is needed, the Wave nature of electron provides a means for probes of very small size organisms. An electron beam accelerated by a high potential difference possess a very short wavelength. In an electron microscope magnetic lenses are used to control the path of electrons. The image of object is obtained on a fluorescent screen or on a photographic plate. The electron microscope with its high magnifying power and resolving power , is one of the most indispensable and powerful tool for research in science , medicine and industry. The working of an electron microscope uses properties of electrons related to
