Fragmentation, leaching and catabolism are some of the important steps of decomposition. Study the following statements I , ii and iii regarding these and select the correct option. (i) Detritivores (e.g., earthworm) breakdown detritus into smaller particles. (ii) Water soluble inorganic nutrients go down into soil horizon and get precipitated as unavailable salts. (iii) Decomposers (e.g., bacteria and fungi) secrete digestive enzymes and degrade detritus into simpler inorganic substances.

Consider the following statements and select the correct option that fills in the blanks. I. A .......food chain being with dead organic matter . II. In xerach succession the series progress from ........ conditions . III Breking down of detritus into small particles by earthworm is called .........

Consider the following statements. A. The movement of energy is unidirectional from the higher trophic level towards the lower trophic level. B. Detritivores break down detritus into smaller particles bya a process is called fragmentation. C. Humification and mineralisation occur during decomposition in the soil. D. Decomposition is largely an oxygen-releasing process. Of the above statements:

During which of the following processes, does entropy decrease ? (A)Freezing of water to ice at 0^(@)C (B) Freezing of water to ice at -10^(@)C (C ) N_(2)(g)+3H_(2)(g) to 2NH_(3)(g) (D) Adsorption of CO(g) on lead surface. (E ) Dissolution of NaCl in water Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

A unicellular animal P having no fixed shape ingests a food particle by forming temporary finger-like projections Q. The food particle is engulfed with a little surrounding water to form a temporary stomach R inside it. The chemicals S from surrounding cytoplasm enter into R and break down food into small and soluble molecules by chemical reactions. The digested food is absorbed directly into cytoplasm by the process T. The undigested food is thrown out of the body by the rupture of a cell organelle U in a process called V. (a) Name the unicellular animal P. (b) What are (i) Q and (ii) R? (c) Name (i) chemical S, and (ii) process T. (d) Name (i) organelle U, and (ii) process V

Read the passage given below and answer the following questions: Reduction of carboxylic acids and their derivatives plays an important role in organic synthesis, in both laboratory and industrial processes. Traditionally, the reduction is performed using stochiometric amounts of hydride reagents, generating stochiometric amounts of waste. A much more attractive, atom-economical approach is a catalytic reaction using H_2 , however, hydrogenation of carboxylic acid derivatives under mild conditions is a very challenging task, with amides presenting the highest challenge among all classes of carbonyl compounds. Very few examples of the important hydrogenation of amides to amines, in which the C-O bond is cleaved with the liberation of water (Scheme 1), were reported. C-O cleavage of amides can also be affected with silanes as reducing agents. We have now prepared the new, dearomatized, bipyridine-based pincer complex 3, catalyst 3(Here refered as Cat. 3). Remarkably, it efficiently catalyzes the selective hydrogenation of amides to form amines and alcohols (eq 1). The reaction proceeds under mild pressure and neutral conditions, with no additives being required. Since the reaction proceeds well under anhydrous conditions, hydrolytic cleavage of the amide is not involved in this process. (Balaraman, E., Gnanaprakasam, B., Shimon, L. J., & Milstein, D. (2010). Direct hydrogenation of amides to alcohols and amines under mild conditions. Journal of the American Chemical Society, 132(47), 16756-16758.) In the following questions, a statement of assertion followed by a statement of reason is given. Choose the correct answer out of the following choices on the basis of the above passage. Assertion: The use of catalyst 3 is an efficient method of preparation of primary amines Reason: Use of catalyst 3 is a step down reaction.
