In the modern periodic table, elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic numbers, which is related to the electornic configuration. Depending upon the type of orbitals receiving the last electron, the elements in the periodic table have been divided into four blocks, viz, p,d and f. Wxplain the following giving suitable reson. (a). Transitin metals of 3d-series doe not react readily with dilute acids to liberate hydrogen although they have high negative reduction potential values. Explain. (b). The atomic radii of the elements in a transition series do not vary much while they do vary in the case of s and p-block elements. Explain. (c). The second and third members in each group of the transition elements group of the transition elements have similar atomic radii. Explain.

If it happens that each orbital can accormmodate 3 electrons (For example electronic configuration of aluminium is 1s^(3) 2s^(3) 2p^(2) , what is the block of the elements with z = 12, 19, 37 when Aufbau rule i) is also valid ii) is not valid?
